Is Mealime Shutting Down? Yes, on 21 October 2026. Here Is What to Do

If you searched this because the app started showing a banner, the short answer is yes. Mealime's own site now reads: Mealime will shut down on October 21, 2026. The longer answer is what happens to your plans, your lists and your Pro subscription between now and then, and which app is worth moving to. This guide is the version we would want if we had a hundred dinners saved in there.

What the announcement actually says

The closing notice on mealime.com says three things. First, the date: the service is discontinued on 21 October 2026. Second, money: effective immediately, Pro subscribers will not be charged any additional subscription fees before the shutdown, which in practice means Pro is free for everyone until the end. Third, the reason: Albertsons Companies bought Mealime in 2021 and is consolidating its meal planning into Meals Hub, a feature inside its grocery store apps (Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco and the rest of the family). Mealime's recipes transfer there, and you need an account in one of those store apps to reach them.

What to do before 21 October

1. Open your favourites and write down the ten meals you actually cooked more than once. That list is worth more than the other ninety.
2. For each of those, find the original recipe on the web if it came from a site, and save it in whatever app you move to. Mealime's own recipes are Mealime's; note the ingredients and the method in your own words.
3. Screenshot your current week and your grocery list template. The aisle-sorted list was Mealime's best feature and you will want to rebuild it somewhere.
4. Cancel nothing: Pro is already free until the end, and cancelling changes nothing about the date.
5. Pick the replacement by the job you used Mealime for, not by the feature list. The next section does that.

Where to go, by the job you used it for

Mealime did one thing well: it took the decision away. You picked a few dinners, it wrote the list, you shopped. The replacements split that job into pieces, so choose by which piece you cared about.

Should you just move to Meals Hub?

Only if you already shop at an Albertsons store and use its app. Meals Hub lives inside those store apps, so it ties your meal plan to one grocer's catalogue, which is exactly what a grocery chain wants and roughly the opposite of what most Mealime users signed up for. If your store is not in the family, or you are outside the United States, it is not an option at all.

The lesson for the next app

Yummly went dark in December 2024, PlateJoy closed in July 2025, and now Mealime. Three planners in two years. The pattern is the same each time: a bigger company buys the app for its users, then folds it into something else. Before you commit to the next one, ask one question: how do I get my stuff back out.
